Skin conditions can be tough. On one hand, it’s a journey that can be lonesome, as many don’t understand the struggles you face when a skin condition can undermine your self-esteem.
Jenna Dewan Tatum wanted to let others know that this journey doesn’t have to be undertaken alone, however, when she revealed her own struggles with melasma, a hyperpigmentation condition.
Dealing with Melasma
And that’s the other hand: many of these skin conditions can be well managed, sometimes just with topical treatments.
Of course, it’s up to the individual whether they choose to openly embrace their condition, as many have, or if they’d prefer to use some sort of cosmetic treatment to manage and reduce the aesthetic effect.
There’s certainly no right answer here, and we can be optimistic that social media is moving toward a place where these differences among us are to be celebrated.
What’s the Difference Between the Many Treatments?
Of course, not all treatments are born alike, and melasma is no exception. Depending on your specific needs, different treatments may work better for you.
As melasma is a hyperpigmentation condition, lasers will most likely be most effective for most individuals. Lasers can specifically target color receptors while minimizing damage to the surrounding tissue.
However, certain treatments that simply induce collagen production, such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion, may suffice.
For extremely light cases, a topical treatment may work as well.
Depending on other aesthetic desires of the consumer, different treatments may also address different concerns.
Therefore, if you’re interested in treating your melasma, it’s important to do your research and find what best suits your needs.
