Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a safe way to perform physical exfoliation for the skin,  The process involves a sterile scalpel and a properly trained person performing the service.

It removes the top most layer of dead skin along with the fine vellus hair (aka peach fuzz).  This is able to be performed monthly.  There is no downtime, and is only performed on the face.

At Hagerstown Dermatology & Skincare we follow dermaplaning with an enzyme and mask, with moisturization and spf applied at the end.

Dermaplaning promotes:

  • Cellular turn over

  • Product penetration

  • Reduces pore size

  • Even skin tone

  • Laser prep

  • Removes Facial Hair

Vellus hairs are not like terminal hairs, will not grow back thicker or darker. Removing the dead skin cells and vellus hair results in healthier skin that looks and feels smoother.

Dermaplaning is especially effective on patients with dry or rough texture and helps minimize superficial acne scarring or uneven skin tone.

It is also very beneficial for more mature skin beyond due to the buildup of dead skin cells, as cellular turnover slows down with age.

Dermaplaning is safe for pregnant and nursing patients.  Oily or active acne patients, or those with dark thick facial hair should avoid this procedure.
